This site utilizes a content management system on every page so the client can make their own updates. We took great care to ensure the page names and indexing are not adversely affected, as is often the case with CMS systems. We built a custom shopping cart for this site and it is also search engine friendly. The previous site only had products sort-able by manufacturer, so we made an application to let the customer make categories such as fishing reels, subcategories such as spinning reels and product pages such as shimano tiagra 120W. This dramatically increased the rankings and content possibilities. When we made the switch to the new site, we made sure to use 301 redirects so the old page names that were in the search engine results pages, would go to the new pages. We also made a custom 404 error page just in case someone got a missing page. We launched a matching blog (for reviews / link bait) and email newsletter and orders have increased significantly. Customers call in regularly to say how much they like the site. We have encouraged customers to submit stories and images to the blog and to make comments. This has resulted in several people calling and saying how excited they are to be a part of the site and to be recognized as faithful customers.
